The barest seed of what has become Alternative Undertakings was planted in 2014, as a research paper.

Johanna is a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant who works with families and loved ones to write a fitting end to a life story.

Johanna knows firsthand how important recognizing—ritually—the death of a loved one is. She believes that crafting a personalized ceremony that reflects the life and values of the individual is of paramount importance.  To help create a deeply meaningful ceremony that is as unique as the individual, Johanna calls upon her varied background in art and design, cultural studies, and science.  She is comfortable performing ceremonies in traditional venues, but specializes in alternative ceremonies. Johanna can perform rites of passing for ash scatterings, themed funerals, and non-traditional faiths.

Johanna advocates for the expansion of environmentally friendly and alternative burial, cremation, and other after-death options. She hopes that with education and thorough planning, some of the stress and heartache associated with after-death arrangements can be eased for the family and loved ones.
